The event, held from 16th to 19th September 2025 at the EYN Headquarters, Kwarhi, brought together participants and their spouses for intensive training on retirement planning, financial stability, and entrepreneurship.

The workshop was officially declared open on Wednesday, 17th September, by the EYN Vice President, Rev. Nuhu M. Abba, who was joined by members of the National Standing Committee.

In his address, he urged retirees to remain faithful to one another, noting that retirement brings both challenges and opportunities. Drawing from Proverbs 6:6–8, he stressed the need for wise planning, diligent saving, and peacebuilding within families, assuring them that God’s blessings of good health and long life would follow their efforts.

ension Secretary Urges Early Retirement Preparation

The EYN Pension Board Secretary, Bro. Aniya Simon Washada, commended the overwhelming turnout, revealing that although the workshop was originally designed for 120 participants (60 couples), registration increased to 248 participants.

He identified crowd management as a key challenge and cautioned against the manipulation of official records, especially dates of birth, to delay retirement. He called on management to rely on authentic employment records for accuracy and fairness.

Bro. Aniya encouraged all EYN staff to start planning for retirement early, noting that retirement is a phase meant to be enjoyed when prepared for, but becomes difficult when neglected.

Entrepreneurship Training Highlights

A major highlight of the workshop was the entrepreneurship session led by Dr. Kacha Ta’awu from the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi (Yola Campus). He guided retirees on how to transform their benefits into sustainable ventures through small-scale businesses, farming, and other income-generating activities.

Dr. Kacha emphasized that entrepreneurship after retirement is a pathway to financial independence, continued productivity, and societal impact.

Pension Board Chairman Advises Wise Investments

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Pension Board, Mr. Sunday Dishon Shallhudiki, congratulated the retirees and reminded them that retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of the road.

Quoting Isaiah 46:4 and Proverbs 21:5, he urged retirees to embrace discipline, prudent investments, and faith in God. He also encouraged them to channel their benefits into productive ventures such as farming or small businesses, prioritize their health, and use their resources responsibly to bless others.
