At the 79th Majalisa, the President of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, delivered a fiery and deeply reflective address that went beyond inspiration to directly confront leadership failures in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is passing through a difficult and painful moment, and silence will only make it worse.”

“Christians blood is still flowing”

In one of the most emotional moments of the speech, the EYN President condemned what he described as the continued killing of Christians, warning that denial of the crisis is both dangerous and dishonest.

He declared that the blood of slain pastors and thousands of believers across Nigeria is crying for justice, recalling the painful reality of over 20,000 widows and 130,000 orphans left behind by violence.

“The blood of our brothers and sisters is crying. We cannot pretend not to hear it.”

“When evil is ignored, it grows stronger.”

The message was unmistakable: Nigeria cannot heal by pretending nothing is wrong.

Direct message to President Tinubu: “call evil by its name”

Without mincing words, Rev. Mbaya called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confront the truth about insecurity.

“The Government of the day under His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should know that when we talk of Christian Genocide, we aren’t accusing him, we are just calling on him and all Nigerians to accept the truth and collectively join our hands and call this evil by its true name. When we fail to call evil by its name, we would not be able to defeat it.”

He warned that failure to acknowledge the problem will only prolong the crisis, reminding leaders that security remains the foremost responsibility of any government.

Attack on religious politics: “stop playing with the constitution”

The speech also addressed rising religious interference in governance, particularly the call by the Sharia Council for the removal of the INEC Chairman.

“This is a dangerous politicization of religion and a direct threat to our Constitution.”

“Leadership must not allow divisive voices to tear the nation apart.”

Mbaya urged the President to call such actors to order before the situation worsens.

Praise where it is due: Fintiri gets a pass mark

While strongly criticizing national leadership, the EYN President commended Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for demonstrating that governance can work in Nigeria.

“Even in Nigeria, things can work when the right people are in the right positions.”

He highlighted the governor’s inclusive leadership, youth empowerment efforts, and reforms as evidence of purposeful governance.

77 churches displaced: the silent crisis nobody is reporting

The President revealed that 77 Local Church Councils have been displaced by ongoing violence, describing it as a humanitarian and spiritual crisis that is largely ignored.

“Many of these attacks are unreported or underreported, yet communities are being wiped out.”

“Our people are suffering in silence.”

He lamented that affected communities are often left abandoned and unheard.

Economic reality check: “farmers are still suffering”

Addressing the economy, Mbaya acknowledged the slight drop in food prices but warned that the cost of agricultural inputs remains extremely high.

“You cannot celebrate cheaper food when farmers cannot afford to produce it.”

He argued that this imbalance continues to disadvantage farmers and undermine real progress.

Church calls for political action: “Don’t just vote—get involved”

In a strong call to action, the Church urged its members to move beyond passive participation in politics.

“Having a voter’s card is not enough—get involved.”

“If you are not comfortable with the system, then enter it and fix it.”

Mbaya encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in political processes and leadership.

Security, Unity, and Accountability: the final warning

The EYN President concluded with a firm reminder that government must prioritize the protection of lives and property.

“The first duty of leadership is the protection of lives and property—this must not be taken lightly.”

He emphasized that the Church will remain non-partisan but will stand for truth and justice.

Bottom line

This was more than a church address; it was a national wake-up call.

“Nigeria’s problem is no longer hidden—it is being ignored.”

From insecurity to economic hardship and governance challenges, the message was clear and urgent: the time for action is now.
