Members of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) District Church Council (DCC) Gulak in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Sunday joined other EYN congregations across the country in observing Black Sunday in solidarity with children and other victims who remain in captivity due to kidnapping, banditry, and the Boko Haram insurgency.
The solemn observance took place during church services held across the district, where worshippers offered prayers and reflected on the persistent security challenges affecting Christians and communities in Northeastern Nigeria.
Speaking during the service, the DCC Secretary and leader of EYN DCC Gulak, Rev. Julius D. Garba, called on the Federal Government and the nation’s security agencies to intensify efforts toward safeguarding lives and property across the country.
According to Rev. Garba, protecting citizens remains one of the fundamental responsibilities of government, stressing the need for urgent action to secure the release of those still in captivity and restore peace to affected communities. He also prayed for God’s intervention, protection, and comfort for the Christian community and Nigerians as a whole.
Following the service, members embarked on a peaceful demonstration to draw attention to the plight of victims and the need for improved security across the nation. The procession was led by Rt. Rev. A. N. Gadzama, an EYN Trustee, who urged authorities to take decisive measures to address the country’s worsening security situation.
Rt. Rev. Gadzama noted that EYN is among the churches most severely affected by insurgency in Northeastern Nigeria, having endured years of attacks, displacement, loss of lives, and destruction of property. He appealed to the government to do everything possible to end the insecurity and ensure the safe return of all those held captive.
The event ended peacefully, with participants expressing hope that their prayers and advocacy would contribute to renewed efforts toward achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
