Bethany Theological Seminary Honors 22 Graduates at her First Commencement in Nigeria

In a joyful celebration, Bethany Theological Seminary, Nigeria, held a historic commencement ceremony in Jos, Nigeria. The ceremony took place at the EYN Technology Centre in Jos on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, graduating students from 2021-2024, including 21 who earned the Postgraduate Diploma in Biblical Peacemaking and one who earned a Certificate of Achievement in Theological Studies.

According to the Academic Dean Steven Schweitzer in a release given to EYN Media, the Postgraduate Diploma in Biblical Peacemaking is a rigorous programme that equips students to construct their theology of peacemaking through biblical, theological, and ethical reflection. With this foundation, students apply their learning in a practical setting, planning, implementing, and evaluating peacemaking initiatives that are contextually appropriate, nonviolent, and consistent with their interpretations of scripture, theology, and ethics.
Rev. Dr. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, President of EYN-Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, who is also an adjunct Lecturer of the seminary, was the featured speaker at the ceremony.

The programme consists of five courses plus a practicum, with several courses co-taught by Bethany faculty and instructors from Nigeria.
Several dignitaries both from within and outside Nigeria attended the program, including Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Carter, President of Bethany Theological Seminary, Steven Schweitzer, Academic Dean, Lori Current, Executive Director of Student Services, Sharon Flaten, Assistant of Recruitment and Student Development in Nigeria, Rev. Joshua Sati, Academic/Operations Manager in Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, EYN President, Rev. Nuhu Mutah Abba, Vice President, Rev. James k Musa, General Secretary, Rev. Daniel I. Yumuna, Director of Education; and Bro. Ayuba Balami, Director of Finance.

In a release shared by Jonathan Graham, Director of Marketing and Communications, in the future, Bethany hopes to celebrate commencement in Nigeria every two years, continuing to support and empower students in their pursuit of theological education and peacemaking endeavours.
