“Time for Talks and Rhetoric Should Be Over” EYN President

The President of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) joined the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in observing the National Mourning and Black Sunday declared to honour victims of violence and express solidarity with affected families across the country.
He read his speech yesterday while organising the EYN LCB Sarkin Dawa into full LCC.
Below is the full text of his address delivered on Sunday, June 14, 2026

Greetings
Greetings to you all dear people of God, believers and all lovers of peace and this nation in the name of Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace.
Today being Sunday 14th June, 2026 marking the end of 3 days fasting and prayers as directed by CAN. Thank you all for actively participating.
This Sunday is declared Black Sunday. The declaration was the outcome of the Head of Churches and Denominational Leaders Summit held at Abuja on the 2nd June, 2026 to which the President of EYN was in attendance.
Those of you who have followed our news and received reports of the Advisory Council meeting held on the 3rd and 4th June, the President called on all EYN congregations and churches to fully comply with the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
This “Black Sunday” is declared to honour victims of violence and show solidarity with affected families.
I appealed to all churches to participate actively in the observance by wearing black attire today and carrying placards with messages expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation in the country. This peaceful demonstration is intended to symbolize unity, grief, and a collective call for the protection of lives and property by our government.
I further urged members to remain committed to the Brethren heritage of peace, nonviolence, brotherly love and mutual care, reminding us that being “our brother’s keeper” remains a core value of the church.
I emphasized that in times of hardship and uncertainty, Christians must stand together, support one another, and demonstrate the love of Christ.
“If others abandon us, we must not abandon ourselves. We must love one another, care for one another, and remain united as the family of God.”
I encouraged all EYN members to pray fervently for peace, justice, and an end to the insecurity ravaging communities across the nation, while trusting God to comfort bereaved families and heal the land.
In my democracy day message though the full interview not aired, I said, June 12, 1993 was adjudged the freest and transparent election in the history of Nigeria, but I said, it was also the cheapest as money wasn’t the determining factor. It was violent free.
I called on the President His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, all political parties and politicians to ensure money politics is rejected.
Tenets of democracy be upheld where the will of the people are respected and elections should reflect the will of the people and not selection or imposition.
I called on Mr President to give a democracy day celebration gift to Nigerians by rescuing the 46 abducted Mussa school children and the abducted Oyo students and teachers.
In the President’s democracy address he said, “kidnappers, terrorists and bandits to lay their arms and embrace peace or they meet with full force, let them embrace this opening as this window will not be there forever.” I have to confess that is disappointing, does he mean this people have a just course they are fighting for? Does our president have the feeling of the parents whose children are in the bush? Do terrorist hear any language of plea? Haba shugaban kasa.
On this Black Sunday let me add.
This protest isn’t targeting any single person but a government and leaders who are campaigning and not bothered with the suffering of the masses.
Is it true that the Governor of Edo State His Excellency Monday Okpebholo said, “kidnap all the country, I dont care, as long as Tinubu wins 2027?” If it is true, this is reckless, insensitive and careless. Since he has not denounced that, I expected the President should call him to order. He should apologize to Nigerians.
If our President loves this country who have been obedient and supported to his government, he should call the likes of Barr Daniel Bwala his aid on policy and communication to order.
He should order the arrest of people like Shiek Ahmed Mamud Gumi who are bent on inciting people and showing clearly through his utterances support for terrorists and terrorism.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and your appontees should stop saying you inherited the issue of insecurity, you said Sir, you are Buhari and his government is yours, did you forgetyou said that?.
Stop giving excuses to Nigerians, your government inherited N160-N175 to a Dollar, your government devalued our Naira to now N1375-N1400 to a Dollar, Sir wannan kuma fa?
Sir, you inherited a N197 per liter of gasoline even from your President Buhari, now in the north, we are buying a liter at N1,400 and above, did you also inherit this?
Did you forget you led a protest against His Excellency Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s government when he removed subsidy?
You removed subsidy 3 years ago, we respected you as our President, you pleaded with us to be patient as we shall soon smile, the patience you couldn’t bear during Goodluck’s administration.
We were patient and three years after, you are still telling us to be patient, is it untill we die before you will reduce our pains?
When we cry, your boys will tell you, we are opposition and you are believing them, ka ji tsoron Allah. We are respected Church leaders, called by God an anointed for his purpose.
We are the moral compass of society and are just doing our prophetic declarations.
Mr President Sir, you and your government must go beyond condemnation of this wickedness to rescuing the soul of Nigeria.
Do not politicize this pains, we are truly in pains. Do not listen to sycophants, they are your enemies and enemies of Nigeria.
Our security personnel are being killed on daily basis, Mr President, remember you said, “emelokon” that is to say, “my turn.” Is your turn to lead to a secured and prosperous nation not into despair.
While commend those security agencies and personnel that are patriotic and honest, I condemn those that are colluding with criminals and direct them to change.
I charge leadership of our security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering mechanisms…
