Two women have been abducted early this morning by suspected Boko Haram insurgents while working on a farm in the Dille area of Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The incident has heightened fear among locals and church leaders, raising concerns about a renewed wave of targeted attacks in rural communities.

According to Rev. Ishaya Mbombu Thliza, DCC Secretary, the victims have been identified as Rose Jarafu, a member of EYN LCC Dille No. 1, and Mrs. Comfort Sunday, a married woman who is pregnant and a former member of EYN LCC Kilakisa, DCC Dille. She is currently displaced and worships at LCC Kilamada.

The two women, along with Mr. Apagu Madu, had gone around 8 a.m. to assist their pastor in trashing maize produce on his farm when they were ambushed by insurgents. The attackers seized their tricycle—popularly known as “carry-go”—which was transporting the women and a driver who narrowly escaped. The tricycle contained a threshing machine and other farm items.

The two women, accompanied by Mr. Apagu Madu, were on their way to assist their pastor with maize threshing when they were ambushed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The attackers seized their “carry-go” tricycle, which was transporting the women and a driver who narrowly escaped. The vehicle also carried a threshing machine and other farm equipment.

Mr. Apagu described the assault as “swift and well coordinated,” noting that he survived only by the grace of God.

Security sources confirmed that soldiers arrived around 2 p.m. and immediately attempted to pursue the attackers into the surrounding bush. As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts and safety of the two abducted women remain unknown.

This incident comes just a few days after seven people were kidnapped in a similar fashion in Chibok, raising fresh fears of coordinated attacks across the region.
