Boko Haram Attack Leaves 20 Dead as EYN Bleeds Again

A fresh Boko Haram attack in Borno on April 21, 2026, has left at least 20 people dead, following coordinated assaults on communities under DCC Rumirgo in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The victims include nine persons killed in Mayo-Ladde, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, whose identities are yet to be confirmed at the time of filing this report due to the continued volatility of the area. In Pubagu, however, the 11 victims—killed in the same attack that saw the burning of an EYN church building—have been identified as members of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria. The deceased are Musa Dio, Jacob Dio, Obitah Saleh, Friday Habila, Black Bitrus, Abosu Iliya, Wavi Munja, Jangai Pius, Luka Tumba, Ishaya Umoru, and Sunday Umoru.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the insurgents moved from Mayo Ladde to Pubagu, pursuing fleeing villagers into the bush and killing those trying to escape.

EYN Leadership Speaks: “The Church Continues to Suffer Persecution”

Speaking during a morning devotion, the General Secretary of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. James K. Musa, lamented the continuous suffering of the Church:

“The Church continues to suffer persecution. Our people are being killed, our places of worship destroyed, and our communities left without protection despite repeated appeals.”

He emphasized that EYN remains one of the most affected churches in the ongoing insurgency, with members constantly living under threat.

A Church Under Pressure, A People in Fear

This latest Boko Haram attack in once again highlights the vulnerability of rural Christian communities.

Residents report that there is little or no security presence during the attack, villagers rely on bushes as their only escape route.

The destruction of the church in Pubagu represents both a physical loss and a deep spiritual wound.

Growing Outrage: “How Many More Must Die?”

The repeated attacks have sparked fresh anger among citizens:

“How many more must die before decisive action is taken? Are these communities not part of Nigeria?”

A Cry That Must Not Be Ignored
