Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have killed a 62-year-old man and looted property during a late-night attack on Zidda Community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, further deepening fears among residents over the persistent insecurity in the area.
According to the DCC Madagali Media Liaison Officer, Markus Zakariya, the attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, when the armed insurgents stormed the community.
The victim, Mr. John Touhuea, popularly known as John Zidda, was shot dead during the attack. He was 62 years old and is survived by 14 children, leaving behind a grieving family and community.
Markus Zakariya said the attackers also looted clothing, livestock, and other valuables belonging to residents before fleeing the village. Although no additional casualties were reported, the incident has left many families traumatized and living in fear of further attacks.
“The situation has greatly affected the community and created widespread fear among the residents,” the liaison officer said while describing the aftermath of the assault.
The latest attack adds to a series of insurgent raids that have continued to affect communities in Madagali and other parts of northeastern Nigeria despite ongoing military operations against Boko Haram and other armed groups.
Community members have called on the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security in vulnerable communities and take decisive measures to protect lives and property from recurring attacks.
The attack has once again highlighted the humanitarian and security challenges facing rural communities in the region, where many residents continue to live under the constant threat of insurgent violence.
