A fresh Borno abduction incident has raised renewed fears over the safety of travelers in Nigeria’s Northeast, as two Boys’ Brigade officers and a civilian were reportedly kidnapped by suspected insurgents.
The victims were abducted on March 30, 2026, while returning from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. According to credible sources, the travelers were part of a convoy of about nine vehicles when they were ambushed along the route by suspected Boko Haram fighters.
The abducted Boys’ Brigade officers have been identified as Lieutenant Emmanuel Dauda and Warrant Officer Markus Michael. Both are members of the 29 Borno Company, attached to EYN LCC Yelwa Barki, and are also affiliated with the Biu Battalion Council. Sources confirmed that the two officers were traveling in the same vehicle at the time of the attack.
In addition to the two officers, a third victim was abducted during the Borno abduction. He is reported to be a civilian from Agabura in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, specifically from Sakwa Ward. Unlike the officers, he is not a member of the Boys’ Brigade but was among the passengers in the convoy.
Following the Borno abduction, security agencies have reportedly launched efforts to track down the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victims, although there has been no official confirmation of their rescue as of the time of filing this report.
This latest Borno abduction underscores the persistent insecurity affecting parts of the state, especially along major travel routes. Despite repeated military operations, attacks by insurgents linked to Boko Haram continue to threaten lives and disrupt movement, leaving civilians increasingly vulnerable.
Citizens and observers are now questioning the effectiveness of existing security strategies, as incidents like this continue to occur with alarming frequency. The Borno abduction has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger, more proactive security measures to protect innocent Nigerians.
As families, communities, and the Boys’ Brigade await the safe return of the abducted individuals, this Borno abduction stands as yet another painful reminder of the ongoing security crisis in Nigeria’s Northeast.
