Raising Spirit-Led Leaders: Inside the EYN DCC Jos Leadership Insight Session

By EYN News Feature Desk
Jos, Nigeria – July 12, 2025

At the heart of a thriving church is strong leadership — and on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) DCC Jos took an intentional step toward nurturing such leadership by hosting a deeply enriching “Leadership Insight” session. Held at the DCC headquarters in Jos, the event brought together pastors, church workers, and members in a warm and spirit-filled atmosphere of learning, reflection, and renewal.

From the opening prayer led by former DCC Chairman, Rev. Sunday Nshem, to the closing thoughts on stewardship and accountability, the session was as much a spiritual retreat as it was a leadership seminar. With four well-curated topics and a lineup of seasoned speakers, the day left attendees not just informed, but inspired.

Rev. Joseph T. Kwaha

Laying the Foundation: What Leadership Really Means

Rev. Mobode Ndirmbita, former EYN Vice President, opened the day with an “Overview of Leadership,” grounding his message in 1 Samuel 15:17. He wasted no time drawing attention to the deeper essence of leadership in the church: the ability to influence, motivate, and inspire individuals toward a shared spiritual goal.

“Leadership is not about titles,” Rev. Ndirmbita said. “It’s about drawing attention to the vision, communicating clearly, adapting when necessary, and living what you preach.”

He highlighted four key practices of effective leaders:

  • Setting clear and Christ-centered goals
  • Providing regular feedback and guidance
  • Empowering others to serve with purpose
  • Living as an example of the message being preached

He also didn’t shy away from acknowledging the real challenges church leaders face — from navigating short-term and long-term priorities, to managing conflict and keeping a healthy spiritual-personal balance.

Beyond Management: Understanding Leadership Spiritually

Next was Rev. Yohanna Apagou, DCC Secretary, who brought depth and spiritual clarity to the conversation in his session, “Understanding Leadership,” based on Proverbs 1:1–7. Unlike secular approaches to leadership, Rev. Apagou stressed that Christian leadership is grounded in wisdom and spiritual maturity.

“Understanding leadership means more than knowing how to lead people. It means walking with God,” he said. Drawing on the stories of Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, he reminded attendees that Godly leaders are those who, like Noah, find grace in God’s eyes and are filled with the Spirit.

He urged current and aspiring leaders to cultivate personal devotion to God as the foundation for all other leadership skills.

Being Different: The Call to Unique Leadership

In a passionate presentation titled “Unique Leadership,” Rev. Joseph T. Kwaha, Pastor in Charge of EYN LCC Jos, painted a picture of leadership that was bold, honest, and Spirit-led. Drawing from 1 Samuel 18:14, he described leaders as those who influence others not by power or personality alone, but by partnering with the Holy Spirit.

He encouraged authenticity and humility, saying, “A good leader must be true to themselves, build trust, and know when to admit mistakes and seek forgiveness.” His message hit home with many, especially when he described Christian leadership as a “dynamic relational process” that requires surrender, self-awareness, and service.

The Hidden Backbone: Accountability and Stewardship

The final session took a practical turn with Bro. Zachariah Bawale, DCC Treasurer, who spoke passionately on the topic “Stewardship and Accountability in All Responsibilities.” He broke down key terms like “responsibility” and “accountability,” linking them to daily leadership roles within the church.

“Accountability is not just about giving answers to people,” he said, “It’s about understanding that everything we manage — time, money, people — must glorify God.”

His message reminded participants that even behind-the-scenes roles in ministry are sacred and deserve the same level of diligence, integrity, and answerability.

A Step Toward a Stronger Church

As the session closed, there was a clear sense that something deeper had taken root. The room was filled with not just note-takers, but heart-listeners — leaders reflecting on how to become more Christ-like, more courageous, and more accountable in their leadership journeys.

The EYN DCC Jos Leadership Insight program was not just another church meeting; it was a deliberate move to build the next generation of leaders — Spirit-filled, wise, and unwavering in their calling.

With initiatives like these, EYN continues to live out its vision of being a united living Church deeply rooted in the Word of God — spiritually, numerically, and materially prosperous. And in Jos, on that warm July day, the seeds of that vision were planted even deeper.
