EYN DRM flood relief reaches Ghung, Kukurpu, Yelwa, and Sabo da Allah communities, with the EYN President urging unity and peace among all citizens.

30 Sept, 2025 –The Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) has extended humanitarian assistance to 190 households affected by recent floods in Ghung, Kukurpu, Yelwa, and Sabo da Allah communities of Hawul Local Government Area, Borno State. Each beneficiary received support worth ₦140,000, an amount that is approximately equal to four to five bags of maize—a lifeline for many families struggling to recover. This intervention is part of ongoing EYN DRM flood relief efforts supported by Kirk in Actie, Netherland.

The distribution exercise was spearheaded by the Directorate of Disaster and Relief Management (DRM), led by Rev. Bitrus Y. Duwara, supported by David Bulus (Accountant), Emmanuel Yakubu (Driver), and the Competence Center Manager, Bro. Wakuma Mshalbwala. Biturs Bwala, DCC Secretary Garkida; Rev. Joel Pogo Ndirbula, DCC Chairman; and Rev. Gambo Yamtu, Host Pastor, were also in attendance alongside other pastors from DCC Garkida.

In his remarks, the Lawan of Ghung, Hussaini Hamman Samdi, expressed gratitude to the EYN leadership for their swift intervention. He commended the church for demonstrating love and unity by reaching out not only to Christians but also to Muslims and traditionalists. The Lawan further appealed to citizens to consistently pray for leaders at all levels, stressing that divine guidance for leadership brings peace and progress to society.

Delivering a message from Matthew 5:45–48, the EYN President, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, reminded the gathering that God showers His blessings on all people, both righteous and unrighteous. He emphasized that EYN remains a peace church that sees every person as created in the image of God, regardless of religion, tribe, or political affiliation.
Rev. Mbaya recalled that the early missionaries who established EYN in Nigeria brought education, agriculture, healthcare, and the gospel, and these services were made available to everyone without discrimination. “That is the heritage of EYN,” he said, adding that the church continues to uphold this legacy by extending help through the support of partners such as Kirk in Actie.
He also encouraged the community to create safe water channels to mitigate future disasters, while urging religious and traditional leaders to use their voices for peace, unity, and mutual respect.
“We pray that the Lord will heal our land as we celebrate independence,” he concluded.

Beneficiaries of the EYN DRM flood relief could not hide their joy. Mohammed Salihu from Sabo da Allah expressed his gratitude to the EYN leadership, saying, “May God bless them more to show this fellowship to all victims,” and assured that the money given will be used for good purposes. Mrs. Yemsu Bulus from Yelwa said she lacked words to express her joy, while Ibrahim Buba from Ghung remarked that he would never forget this gesture, describing it as “a true show of humanity.”
The event was further supported by the active participation of the EYN National Standing Committee, which includes Bro. Ayuba U. Balami, Director of Finance & Economic Growth; Rev. Amb. Timta L. Musa, EYN Administrative Secretary; Mrs. Hassana Habu, Director of Women’s Ministry; Mr. Yakubu Peter, Director ICBDP; Rev. John Wada Zambua, Director of Audit & Compliance; Rev. Evang. Musa D. Mbaya, Director of Missions; Rev. Eli Samuel, Secretary of the Ministers’ Council; and Rev. Daniel I. Yumuna, Director of Education.
