In a significant step toward youth empowerment and institutional self-reliance, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) has announced the employment of 11 graduates from the Mason Technical School (MTS), with plans underway to launch a full-scale vocational workshop initiative. The program will focus on woodwork, mechanics, welding, and other technical services that align with the church’s broader vision of holistic development.
During a morning devotion welcoming the first batch of employed graduates, Rev. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, PhD, President of EYN, described the move as a strategic action in line with the National Standing Committee’s resolution to empower the church to operate with greater independence.
“Soon, all mechanical, carpentry, and welding work within EYN will be handled internally,” said Rev. Mbaya. “We are building a system where EYN functions like a government on its own, without needing to rely solely on external or government employment. Eventually, this workshop can offer its services to the wider community.”
The initial group of skilled workers—all of whom are active members of the EYN Church—has been categorized based on their area of technical expertise:
Welding – Metal Fabrication and Repair
-
Ayuba John
-
Moses Ezekiel
Electrical Engineering – Installations and Repairs
-
Adama Peter
Woodworking and Carpentry
-
Peter Simon
-
Daniel Yakubu
Automobile Mechanics
- Timothy Jonathan
These six individuals have already assumed their duties. The remaining employees are expected to take up their roles shortly as preparations for the workshop facility continue.
The upcoming workshop will not only support internal church operations by eliminating the need for outsourced labor but will also serve as a center for vocational training, youth employment, and sustainable development within and beyond the EYN community.
This initiative reinforces EYN’s commitment to building a church that is spiritually, economically, and materially prosperous
