The President of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, has thanked pastors and members of the church for what he described as their overwhelming response to a three-day fasting and prayer programme organised over the worsening insecurity affecting communities in Northeast Nigeria.
In a message posted through his social media handle on Thursday morning, Rev. Mbaya said the church leadership was encouraged by the participation of members during the spiritual exercise held from Monday 4 May to Wednesday 6 May 2026.
He stated that the massive participation of members demonstrated the church’s faith and dependence on God in difficult times, stressing that God has heard the cries of His people.
“God has heard our cry and we shall see His manifestation,” the EYN President declared in the message while encouraging believers to remain steadfast in prayers and trust in God’s intervention.
The fasting and prayer followed an official church letter titled “A Solemn Call to Fasting and Prayer in Times of Distress,” dated 28 April 2026, in which the church leadership raised concerns over renewed attacks and killings affecting members in parts of the Northeast.
According to the letter, more than 50 church members were reportedly killed within one week in communities linked to DCC Kauttikari, Rumirgo, and Guyaku.
Prayer points highlighted in the letter included comfort for bereaved families, exposure of perpetrators and sponsors of violence, government responsibility in protecting lives and property, strengthening of faith among believers, restoration of peace, and justice in the country.
The spiritual exercise, which drew participation from EYN pastors, women, youths, choir groups, and members across different Local Church Councils (LCCs), focused on prayers for peace, healing, protection, national security, and divine intervention over communities affected by attacks and displacement in Northeast Nigeria.
Rev. Mbaya, urged members to remain steadfast despite the security challenges facing many communities, expressing hope for God’s protection, comfort, and peace.
The latest prayer initiative comes amid continued concerns over attacks, displacement, and humanitarian challenges affecting several communities in Adamawa and Borno states, where many EYN members are resident.
