The EYN ICBDP Agricultural Department has successfully concluded a Mission 21 workshop on irrigation farming for project areas in Giwi, Dilwachira, Samuwa, and Guyaku communities. The training was led by Mr. Yakubu Peter, Director of ICBDP EYN Headquarters, Kwarhi, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The workshop focused on promoting irrigation and dry season farming as a vital agricultural practice that enhances food security and supports economic stability, especially in rural communities. Speaking during the training, Mr. Yakubu Peter emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of life, contributing to both sustenance and income generation.
Participants were taught practical skills on how to carry out dry season farming effectively, including water management, crop selection, and pest control measures. Mr. Yakubu cautioned that improper use of pesticides could lead to environmental pollution, posing risks to both humans and other living organisms.
The training also encouraged farmers to engage in productive agricultural activities even after the rainy season, rather than remaining idle at home. The team highlighted that irrigation farming not only ensures continuous food production but also creates opportunities for business and self-reliance.
The workshop ended with participants expressing gratitude to the EYN ICBDP Agric Department and Mission 21 for empowering them with knowledge that would improve their livelihoods and strengthen food security in their communities. The ICBDP Director encourage them that it will be useful to them.
