The President of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the families of members who lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Sunday night.
Describing the incident as painful and unfortunate, the EYN President acknowledged the sovereignty of God, noting that even in such difficult moments, God knows and understands all things.
“Though this tragedy is difficult for us to understand, we take solace in the fact that God knows everything,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the church is currently in a state of mourning, following the demise of young and active members who were committed to the service of God.
“This is a painful loss to the church. We have lost vibrant and dedicated young men who were actively involved in the work of God. Their absence will be greatly felt.”
The tragic accident occurred late on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., a few kilometers outside Gombe, as the victims were travelling to attend the EYN Majalisa 2026.
Those who lost their lives have been identified as Rev. Jonathan D. Milila, Resident Pastor of EYN LCC Auta Balefi under DCC Nasarawa; Bro. Amos Bulus, a GCC Delegate from LCC Auta Balefi; and Bro. Amos Ishaku, a GCC Delegate representing LCC Mission City.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred under unclear circumstances along the Gombe route. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident was reported, and the victims were confirmed dead at the scene. Authorities are yet to officially determine the cause of the accident at the time of this report.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the EYN community, particularly within DCC Nasarawa and other congregations, as members continue to mourn and offer prayers for the bereaved families.
