Teachers from EYN Mason Technical School, Garkida have completed a week-long academic learning visit to vocational and technical institutions in Jos, Plateau State, as part of efforts to improve teaching standards and strengthen technical and vocational education.
The study tour, held from 2 to 7 August 2026, enabled members of the school’s teaching staff to engage with industry professionals, observe modern training methods and exchange ideas on best practices in technical education.
The delegation arrived in Jos on Sunday, 2 August, before beginning academic activities the following day with orientation sessions and introductory engagements designed to prepare participants for a series of institutional visits.
On Tuesday, the teachers visited Dentech Fabrication in the Millionaire Quarters area, where they observed fabrication processes, welding techniques and industrial safety procedures. They later toured DEC FOM Woodwork at Abattoir, gaining insights into furniture production, woodworking technology and workshop management.
The programme continued on Wednesday with visits to WISCOD Training Centre in Farin Gada, St. Augustine Vocational Training Centre in Rantya, ICIN Vocational Training Centre, Faith Alive Foundation, Petina Event Gallery and Catering Services in Tudun Wada and BRICS Vocational Training.
At the various centres, participants met instructors and administrators, observed practical training sessions and discussed approaches to competency-based education, entrepreneurship, hospitality, catering, tailoring and other vocational skills.
On Thursday, the delegation visited Juicy Culinary and Tailoring and Minefields Nigeria Limited in Bukuru, where the teachers were introduced to modern culinary practices, garment production, industrial operations and workplace safety standards.
The final leg of the tour took the delegation to Technical School, Bukuru on Friday, where discussions focused on curriculum delivery, workshop management, competency-based training and ways of strengthening technical and vocational education.
The management of EYN Mason Technical School, Garkida said the learning visit formed part of the school’s commitment to continuous professional development, adding that exposing teachers to current industry practices would improve classroom instruction and practical training.
Teachers who participated in the programme described the visit as valuable and rewarding, saying it had broadened their professional knowledge and provided ideas they intend to apply in their teaching.
Technical and vocational education is increasingly recognized as a key driver of workforce development in Nigeria, with schools and training institutions placing greater emphasis on practical skills, innovation and entrepreneurship. The management of EYN Mason Technical School said it would continue to invest in staff development to ensure students receive training that meets current industry needs.
