DCC Yola Gains Autonomy on 10 August, 2025
Last Sunday, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) marked a historic milestone with the official chartering of District Church Council (DCC) Yola from DCC Jimeta, making it the fourth DCC to gain autonomy this year. The service, led by Rev. Markus Umaru, brought together pastors, their wives, and more than a thousand members from across the district. It was a colorful and deeply spiritual gathering, with the auditorium filled to capacity and the sound of hymns and praises rising like incense. The atmosphere was charged with worship, gratitude, and celebration as the new DCC began its independent journey in ministry—a step that symbolized both administrative progress and spiritual renewal.

‘When God’s Presence is Everything, the Nation Will Change’
During the chartering service, EYN President, Rev. Dr. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, PhD, lifted a passionate and prophetic prayer for Nigeria and all its people. He declared that when the presence of God becomes the nation’s foundation, “everything will change.” His tone was both pastoral and urgent, speaking directly to the conscience of the nation.

Addressing the congregation and, by extension, the country, he challenged leaders at all levels of government to act with fairness and ensure that the welfare of ordinary citizens is always at the heart of decision-making. “Injustice thrives when good people stay silent,” he warned. To illustrate his point, he drew attention to economic imbalances, saying, “It makes no sense for the price of corn to drop while fertilizer remains expensive; or for beans to become cheaper while instant noodles remain at the same price. Every policy must remember the masses—because God is watching.”

In a powerful symbolic moment during the service, the President, together with all pastors and pastors’ wives present, extended their hands toward the congregation and the newly formed DCC Yola in a unified gesture of blessing. The special prayer, led by the President, called down God’s favor, guidance, and protection—not only upon DCC Yola but also upon the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria as a whole. It was a moment of deep spiritual unity, underscoring the shared mission and bond within the body of Christ.

The President also reaffirmed EYN’s long-standing political neutrality, reminding members that the church belongs to no political party but is committed to the moral and spiritual development of the nation. “As your leader, I do not belong to any political party. But all EYN members who belong to any party have the blessing of the Church of God,” he said.
Looking ahead, Rev. Mbaya shared a forward-looking vision for the church’s media outreach, announcing plans to establish Brethren Radio and Television and also Brethren University with committees already set in place. This platform, he explained, will broadcast the gospel of peace, reconciliation, and unity to a much wider audience. “We will not just complain—we will act,” he emphasized, calling on members to see media as a tool for positive change and nation-building.

‘Anyone Who Has God Has Everything’
EYN Vice President, Rev. Nuhu Mutah Abba, in his sermon, carved from Colossians 1:17-18, brought the focus back to the heart of the Christian faith. He reminded the congregation that life without God is incomplete and without meaning. Drawing from Paul’s message in Colossians, he affirmed that Christ is alive, the key to heaven, and the solution to all human problems.

“With God, everything is possible,” he said with conviction. “If prayers seem unanswered, it may be because of sin. We must repent and allow the light of God to shine in our lives, transforming us and filling us with His blessings.” His words stirred reflection among listeners, many of whom nodded and murmured their agreement.
A New Chapter for DCC Yola
For the members of the newly chartered DCC Yola, the day was far more than an administrative formality—it was a spiritual landmark. It marked growth, faith, and a renewed call to service in the body of Christ. The separation from DCC Jimeta was conducted in a spirit of unity and mutual blessing, showing the maturity and grace that have come to define EYN’s leadership transitions.

The event reflected the church’s commitment to strengthening its structures while continuing to spread the message of Christ with renewed vigor. The congregation’s singing was loud and heartfelt, with joyful dances punctuating the service. Every smile, every embrace, and every prayer pointed to a shared conviction: this was the birth of something significant.

As the congregation sang and rejoiced, the moment reflected not just the birth of a new DCC but the continued growth of EYN’s mission—to be a united, living church, deeply rooted in the Word of God, spiritually, numerically, and materially prosperous. The day closed with prayers, blessings, and the hopeful expectation that DCC Yola would rise to meet its calling with faith and courage, shining as a beacon of Christ’s love in the region.
