The new President of EYN- Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, emphasized the importance of unity, respect, forgiveness, and servant leadership in a workplace.
He said this today, while introducing the new EYN Leaders Rev. Nuhu Mutah Abba, Vice President and Rev. James K. Musa, General Secretary, at the EYN Headquarter’s Staff Morning devotion, marking their first after they assumed office on Friday 3rd, May 2024.
In his remarks, he reiterated his vision for a united church, deeply rooted in God’s word, and called on staff to put aside their differences and work together towards this goal.
Rev. Dr. Mbaya humbly declared, “I will be a fool for the sake of the church of God,” and emphasized that he comes as a servant and equal among equals. He drew inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s example of forgiveness and non-revenge, restating that “Revenge is a childish and forgiveness is the work of the strong; there is no vengeance in my blood.”
The President urged staff to “bury the hatchet” and unite, assuring them that his leadership will respect and uphold the church’s structure, allowing every office to function properly. He encouraged all directors, staff to bring their ideas, gifts, and brains to the table, promising to respect and not disgrace anyone. Prior to the President’s address, the new EYN Vice President, Rev. Nuhu Mutah Abba, implored all staff members to be committed in fulfilling their responsibilities in their respective roles as usual.
