Pemi, Chibok, Borno State — A new wave of fear gripped Pemi Ward in Chibok Local Government Area on November 8, 2025, when unknown gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents launched a violent evening raid, leaving destruction and trauma in their wake.
The attackers stormed the community around 6:30 p.m., setting ablaze the EYN Church No. 1 Pemi and the pastor’s residence, reducing all belongings to ashes. Two vehicles, a motorcycle, and seven shops were also destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen looted valuables from several homes before attempting to burn the EYN Talagu Pemi Church, but were resisted by members of the community vigilante group. Two vigilantes sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Reacting to the attack, the EYN- President , Rev. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, PhD strongly condemned the violence, describing it as another clear sign of religious persecution in Northern Nigeria.
“This is proof and confirmation that there is genocide in Nigeria,” he said. “For those who deny it, this fresh attack on the people of Pemi shows clearly that genocide is happening. No mosque was touched, and no Muslim house was affected.”
His remarks echo the growing concerns about targeted attacks on Christians in Borno and other parts of the North. Community members have repeatedly called on authorities to act decisively against the ongoing wave of violence that continues to devastate rural Christian settlements.
The attack in Pemi comes amid a broader outcry over insecurity and religious intolerance in the region. Faith leaders and human rights advocates are urging the federal government and security agencies to prioritize the protection of vulnerable communities and prevent further escalation.
