Kumu of Gombi Receives EYN Endorsement Amid Calls for Justice and Community Vigilance
In a visit marked by deep respect and a renewed bond between faith and tradition, the President of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN), Rev. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, PhD, paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Dr. Aggrey Bechour Ali, The Kumu I of Gombi Chiefdom, offering words of solidarity, prayer, and hope for the new traditional ruler.
The EYN President, addressing the monarch and his council, noted that although they regretted missing the historic coronation ceremony, EYN remains unwavering in its support for the new Kumu. “Be rest assured that the cap fits no one better than you,” Rev. Mbaya said. “Your appointment is a restoration of dignity to us as a people. Anyone who is not happy with your coronation is an enemy of the state and of the Church.”

Emphasizing the significance of Gombi in the socio-political landscape of the state, he added, “Gombi is one of the most politically aware constituencies. We believe your leadership will be equitable, just, and fair.”
The EYN President also urged the traditional leadership to take proactive steps in ensuring the safety and security of their communities. “Charge your village heads to conduct a census of their subjects and monitor incoming visitors to quickly identify those who may pose a threat.”
In a heartfelt response, the Kumu of Gombi, HRM Dr. Aggrey Bechour Ali, expressed gratitude for the church’s visit and support. “When the umbrella is Christ, then I am with them,” he declared. He lauded EYN’s enduring contributions in education and healthcare delivery across the region and acknowledged the right of every citizen in Gombi Chiefdom to enjoy peace and development.
“I am not here to play politics but to bring unity among the people of Gombi,” the monarch affirmed. “Where there is disharmony, I will bring peace. We must evaluate ourselves and move forward as one.”
The visit not only reaffirmed the historical alliance between the Church and traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria but also set a tone of mutual cooperation for the peace and progress of the region. Both leaders emphasized reconciliation, unity, and service to the people as the path forward.
