The second edition of the EYN President’s Zoom engagement with youths has produced far-reaching outcomes, as the leadership of EYN- Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, reaffirmed its commitment to repositioning young people at the centre of the church’s future.
The virtual meeting, held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, and hosted by the EYN President, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, brought together youths from across the denomination under the theme “EYN Youths and the Church.” Beyond dialogue, the session resulted in clear action points aimed at strengthening youth inclusion, digital transformation, and strategic expansion of the church.
Maiden EYN Youth Mega Convention To Hold in April, 2026
A major outcome of the meeting was renewed momentum toward the EYN Youth Mega Convention scheduled for April 2026. The President confirmed that the Vice President, Rev. Nuhu Mutah Abba, will finalize planning arrangements, while a dedicated media and publicity committee will be constituted to drive nationwide mobilization.
The leadership also committed to ensuring that the Youth Mega Convention does not clash with other programmes, particularly the National Youth Fellowship Conference, in order to promote unity and maximum participation.
Digital Transformation and Media Engagement
Responding to repeated concerns raised by youths, the EYN leadership agreed to prioritize digital development across the church. Key decisions include:
- The development and launch of a fully functional EYN website to replace the currently inactive platform.
- Creation of Official email addresses for EYN headquarters to improve communication
- Strengthening media engagement to ensure active online participation during worship and church programmes
Participants emphasized that digital visibility is essential for reaching young people, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, a position strongly acknowledged by the President.
Stronger Youth Inclusion and Leadership Participation
The meeting also recorded progress in redefining youth participation within church structures. The President assured participants that EYN will develop policies to encourage greater receptiveness to youth ideas at LCC and DCC levels, while also exploring ways to involve youths in leadership, governance, and ministry decision-making.
Plans were also discussed to create a digital database to register EYN members according to profession and location, enabling the church to strategically harness the skills of its youths for development, missions, and administration.
Education, Missions, and Church Expansion
On theological education and missions, the President encouraged youths to consider theological training and missionary service, especially in states where EYN has no presence. Particular attention was drawn to Kebbi State as a potential mission field. He further disclosed ongoing missionary engagements in Senegal and Burkina Faso, challenging youths to see missions as a calling beyond paid employment.
The meeting also reinforced EYN’s long-term vision, including plans for a Brethren University, expansion of theological education, and scholarship opportunities for less-privileged members.
Standardization and Strategic Direction
Another key outcome was the decision by the National Standing Committee to review and standardize terminology used across all EYN levels to promote clarity and unity. The EYN headquarters also committed to stepping down the church’s strategic plan document to DCCs and LCCs for broader understanding and implementation.
Looking Ahead
As the meeting drew to a close, youths were invited to serve on ad hoc committees for the Youth Mega Convention and other initiatives, signaling a shift from consultation to active collaboration.
The second Zoom meeting has thus moved beyond conversation, laying a clear foundation for youth-driven digital growth, inclusive leadership, and structured preparation for the 2026 Youth Mega Convention, as EYN positions its young population as partners in shaping the future of the church.
