Maiduguri Bomb Blasts: EYN President Condemns Attack, Sends Sympathy to Borno Government

The President of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Y. C Mbaya, PhD, has strongly condemned the Maiduguri bomb blasts, describing the tragic incident as inhumane and a serious threat to peace and humanity.

In a condolence message addressed to the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur,  the EYN President expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the entire EYN family over the devastating Maiduguri bomb blasts that occurred on March 16, 2026.

Maiduguri Bomb Blasts: Tragedy in a Sacred Season

Rev. Mbaya noted that the Maiduguri bomb blasts happened during the sacred periods of Ramadan and Lent, making the attacks even more painful and unacceptable.

“This sad incident happening in the Holy month of Lent and of Ramadan is to be condemned by all lovers of God Almighty and humanity,” he stated.

Casualties and Impact of Maiduguri Bomb Blasts

Reports indicate that the the blast claimed at least 23 lives and left over 100 people injured, as explosions struck multiple locations across Maiduguri, including busy civilian areas.

Security agencies have since intensified investigations into the incident, with early indications suggesting coordinated attacks by suspected insurgents.

EYN President Prays for Victims of Maiduguri Bomb Blasts

The EYN President offered prayers for the victims of the  bomb blasts, asking God to comfort grieving families and grant healing to the injured.

“May the Lord God Almighty comfort the bereaved families and grant speedy healing to the injured,” he prayed.

Call for Unity After Maiduguri Bomb Blasts

Reacting further to the, Rev. Mbaya called for unity among citizens and leaders, urging collective action, prayer, and resilience in the face of violence.

The statement reinforces the commitment of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria to peacebuilding, compassion, and national solidarity, especially during times of crisis.
