The Ministers’ Widows Workshop organized by EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria has brought together 81 participants at the EYN Headquarters, Kwarhi, with a focus on helping ministers’ widows and wives overcome loneliness through spiritual, emotional, and social support.
The four-day workshop, themed “Overcoming Loneliness,” began on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, and will conclude on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Participants were drawn from various EYN districts and local church councils across Nigeria.
Loneliness, grief, and social isolation remain significant challenges for many widows, particularly following the loss of a spouse. In response, EYN organized the Ministers’ Widows Workshop to provide encouragement, practical guidance, and opportunities for fellowship among participants.
The programme forms part of EYN’s broader commitment to supporting ministers’ families, promoting emotional well-being, and strengthening the spiritual life of church members.
Ministers’ Widows Workshop Focuses on Overcoming Loneliness
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the President of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, welcomed participants and encouraged them to remain steadfast in faith despite the difficult circumstances they face.
In his welcome address, Rev. Mbaya acknowledged the emotional and social challenges often experienced by widows. He urged participants not to allow loneliness, grief, or discouragement to define their lives but to draw strength from God, the church, and fellow believers.
He reminded them that they remain valuable members of both the church and society and encouraged them to stand firm in their faith during challenging times.
Rev. Mbaya emphasized that God remains a source of comfort, hope, and strength for those who trust in Him. He also encouraged participants to maintain strong relationships within the Christian community, actively participate in church activities, and support one another as a family of faith.
The EYN President further expressed appreciation to the organizers for creating a platform where ministers’ widows can share experiences, receive encouragement, and gain practical knowledge for personal and spiritual growth.

The workshop is facilitated by Dr. Justina K. Damap, who highlighted the importance of building strong support networks, maintaining healthy relationships, and strengthening faith as effective ways of overcoming loneliness.
