National Mourning Observance: EYN LCC Garkida No. 2, DCC Garkida Stands in Solidarity with Victims of Violence
MUBI, Adamawa State — Sunday, June 14, 2026 — Members of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, LCC Garkida No. 2, DCC Garkida joined Christians across the country in observing a three-day National Mourning, dedicating time to prayer, reflection, and intercession for victims of violence and insecurity in Nigeria.
The solemn programme, held from Friday, June 12, 2026, to Sunday, June 14, 2026, followed a directive from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which called on churches nationwide to mourn with affected families and seek divine intervention for the nation.
Black Sunday Marked with Prayer and Solidarity
The observance reached its climax in DCC Garkida on Sunday, June 14, 2026, designated as Black Sunday, when members arrived for worship dressed in black as a visible expression of mourning and solidarity with families grieving the loss of loved ones.
Placards bearing messages of peace, hope, justice, and national unity were displayed within the church premises in compliance with the CAN directive. The messages reflected the concerns of many Nigerians over the persistent security challenges affecting communities across the country.
Throughout the service, worshippers offered prayers for victims of violence, families who have lost loved ones, and those recovering from the physical and emotional effects of insecurity.
Church Leaders Call for Unity and Compassion
During the service, church leaders emphasized the need for unity among Christians and Nigerians while encouraging members to remain steadfast in prayer during challenging times.
