The EYN Community Development Programme (CDD) one of the arms of the EYN Integrated Community Based Development Programme (ICBDP) facilitated a workshop for 13 Community Development Officers (CDOs). The four-day workshop, held from Monday, August 12 to Thursday, August 15, 2024, took place at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Jimeta, Yola.
The workshop was facilitated on Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) by Mr. Maikwari I. Dass and Miss. Paulina Sarki from POD of ECWA Jos, which aimed to equip CDOs with the knowledge and skills to establish and manage VSLA groups in their respective communities. The VSLA model offers zero-interest loans to support business ventures, improving household economies and fostering community development, Improves gender relation (inclusive), quick access to money, improves leadership skills and quality of members and encourages the habit of savings especially among low income earners.
The workshop focused on enhancing networking and opportunity sharing among members, promoting financial inclusion, and building resilience against economic shocks. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, group discussions, to grasp the VSLA concept and its implementation.
