21-10-2025, Kwarhi, Adamawa State — The EYN- Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, under its Integrated Community-Based Development Programme (ICBDP), has dedicated a newly installed solar-powered borehole to support the establishment of a central nursery for the Food Sovereignty and Agroecology Project.

The project, financed by Mission 21 in collaboration with the ICBDP Agriculture Department, aims to promote sustainable food production and self-reliance within communities. The borehole will provide reliable water supply essential for the nursery’s growth and operations.
The dedication ceremony took place yesterday at the EYN Headquarters, Kwarhi, immediately after the morning devotion. It was officiated by the EYN President, Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, in the company of the National Standing Committee (NSC) and EYN headquarters staff.
In his remarks, Rev. Mbaya commended the Agriculture Department, headed by Mr. Timothy Mohammed, for their dedication to the project (Food Sovereignty and Agroecology). He encouraged the team to “put in their best to ensure the success of the initiative” and urged them to move toward mass production of tree seedlings in the nursery.

The President further challenged the department to “think beyond the box” by venturing into value-added processing such as beans flour, soya beans flour, and soya oil production, emphasizing that such innovations would reduce dependence on imported goods and strengthen local food systems.
The ICBDP, with Mr. Peter Yakubu as the Director, oversees several departments including Agriculture, Community Development, and Rural Health. Through collaborative efforts with partners like Mission 21, ICBDP continues to promote holistic and sustainable development across EYN communities.
