EYN LCC Shagari Low-cost Mubi in deep sorrow

The congregation of  EYN LCC Shagari Low-cost Mubi  has been thrown into grief following a devastating fire that completely destroyed the home of the Assistant Pastor, Pst. Sabo Joel, on 25th November 2025.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm, catching residents unaware as most were asleep. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire was triggered by an electrical spark resulting from high voltage. By the time the flames were put out, the entire building had been razed, leaving nothing behind food items, clothing, farm produce, household property, and seven chickens were all burnt to ashes.

Community Response and God’s Mercy

Despite the heavy loss, the church expressed profound gratitude that no life was lost. The Resident Pastor, Rev. Yohanna Ndumari Uba, who visited the scene, described the incident as “devastating” but thanked God for preserving the family.

Rev. Ndumari also praised the extraordinary show of solidarity from the community, noting that  about 85% of those who rushed to help extinguish the fire were Muslims. He said this unity reflects the impact of the recent EYN Peace Program workshop aimed at strengthening peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims.

He appreciated the swift concern of EYN President, Rev. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, PhD, who responded immediately upon receiving the report and appreciated the efforts of the leadership

The Resident Pastor further commended the bravery of the Assistant Pastor’s wife, who successfully rescued all five of their children from the burning house before the fire intensified.

Victim’s Reaction

Speaking with emotion, Pst. Sabo Joel thanked God for sparing the lives of his family members.

“I thank God for saving my family from this great danger. Though the loss is heavy, all praise be to God. May His will be done,” he said.

He acknowledged that while the destruction was overwhelming, the survival of his wife and children remains his greatest comfort.

Community Appreciation

A member of the Church Committee, John Duwara, expressed appreciation to church members, neighbors, and volunteers who came together to support the family in their moment of distress.

Expert Warning from YED

The Business Unit Manager of YEDC Mubi , Mr. Anthony John, who inspected the scene, warned that many fire outbreaks in the Mubi area are caused by unsafe “face-to-face” electrical connections. He explained that voltage levels often rise at night due to low electrical load, increasing the risk of sparks for households with illegal or unsafe wiring.

He urged residents to avoid such practices and to report electrical faults directly to the YEDC office. He noted that although power supply in the area has been normalized, homes with unsafe connections remain vulnerable—especially during nighttime when most commercial activities are inactive.
